THE GONSTEAD DIFFERENCE

Dr. Clarence S. Gonstead (1898-1978) was in influential chiropractor who revolutionized the field of chiropractic with his biomechanical approach. Along with detailed clinical observation he developed the Gonstead System, a precise and thorough method of chiropractic care that emphasizes detailed spinal analysis using X-rays, motion palpation, and a specialized technique for adjusting the spine.
THE GONSTEAD SYSTEM
1. Health History
Our priority is to have a detailed understanding of each patients present health challenges. This enables us to form a precise and tailored care plan of correction.
2. Postural Assessment
These visual patterns enable a better understanding of spinal biomechanics and gait patterns.
3. Instrumentation
A handheld instrument with bilateral thermocouples (heat sensors) that detect skin temperature differentials and help us pinpoint subluxations (misalignments).
4. Palpation
Palpating or feeling with our hands along the spine identifies specific spinal levels of swelling and altered muscle tone. Motion palpation with our hands is feeling the precise location and pattern of altered joint movement.
5. X-rays
Full-spine x-rays allow us to precisely analyze the entire structure of your spin and correlate these biomechanical findings with your entire examination. This enables the most precise adjustment to achieve the best corrective results. X-ray also may rule out congenital malformations, disease processes, or fractures.
